COVID-19 Update—Tuesday, March 31st
We'll be posting updates regarding store & factory closures amidst the COVID-19 pandemic here.
Woodworking with Andy McFate
We're exploring Andy’s woodworking studio today, and it smells like heaven. If you’ve ever pressed your face against cedar wood and deeply inhaled, it’s like that—except the whole place smells that good so you don’t have to walk around holding a piece of wood to your face to get the effect.
Eggplant Sauce with Tomato and Red Chili Pepper
We're diving into The Essentials of Italian Cooking with this simple and satisfying eggplant dish. Wanna make it with us?
Zuni Bread Salad
There’s something truly extraordinary that happens when you give a very good loaf of quality bread the salad treatment.
Gallina en Huarache/Chicken in "Sandals"
I mostly chose this dish because of the cute name. Chicken in “Sandals"—just think about it, can you imagine what a sandal for a chicken would look like? Would it be a sling back? A thong? Leather? Rubber?
Clay Buddies: Daryl Nathanson
Meet Daryl, fulfillment manager by day and talented musician by night. Here's a bit about him, and why we're so glad he's a part of our team.
Andhra Shrimp Curry
Here's a heavily-spiced shrimp curry that takes less than half an hour to put together (chopping included,) but is deeply flavorful.
Cereal Milk Panna Cotta
This panna cotta harkens back to a childhood delight—the leftover milk in the bottom of your cereal bowl.
Cassou-yay. Don't be intimidated by this French bean stew. This one's an easy version—not a three-day project.
Urgency & Rest
"If the bowl is dirty, wash it." There's calm in the call to action to tend the gardens we've sowed.
Let's All Slow Down
Take a moment and enjoy an East Fork crossword with us. If you're quick, you may even win a prize.
Glassblowing with Hayden Wilson
As the bits of residual glass cool, they shatter off the blowpipes and thus the pipes are ready for the next round of production. Hayden warned us not to look down into the water because “there’s glass shattering and flying around down there,” and all throughout our visit there were ambient sounds of just that. Glass blowing is wild.
In a perfect world, we could bring back every retired glaze we’ve ever made to make sure each and every one of you gets exactly what you want in your cupboards. Sadly, it’s logistically impossible.
Between Two Bowls
Wild news, y’all. You can eat breakfast in the Ice Cream Bowl and ice cream in the Breakfast Bowl.
Ask any travel listicle where to plan your next getaway and 99% of them are going to tell you to come to Asheville. Clean mountain air, live music. Everyone’s got their own version of a “perfect” weekend getaway, and our style might not be your style, but we get a lot of folks asking us about where to go, what to eat, and so forth when they visit Asheville and we truly do have very strong opinions about it. And so here they are! A few of many very fun, delicious, energizing, relaxing things to do, eat, see, drink, and experience in Asheville, North Carolina.
Everybody Deserves A Home
Four times a year, we raffle off a highly collectible piece from the Small Batch Studio to raise funds for a justice and equity-minded Western North Carolina nonprofit. First up for 2020 is Homeward Bound, an organization working to end homelessness in the Asheville area. We’re hoping to raise $5,000. Please help us get there!
From the Earth: Heilbron Herbs
A warm, earthy, subtly sweet tea we can't get enough of: Color Therapy. Explore the process from sowing the seed to steeping a fresh pot of tea as we dive in with Saralyn of Heilbron Herbs, a Western North Carolina local.
Tokens of Love
We asked our team, here at East Fork HQ, to share their plans for Valentine’s Day (or previous ones), no matter if it’s love-related or not, and we got some juicy responses.
10 Years Ago on Ras Grooms Road
"We contemplated the cosmic absurdity that two people from such different worlds would find themselves together in this little clearing in the woods, listening to the wind and snow. We were alone in a strange dreamscape, and life felt new and wild and sweet and full of possibility."
If you're feeling anything but merry and bright this season, we just wanted to remind you and ourselves that you are not alone...
A Holiday PSA
This holiday season, we hope you’ll join us in remembering that real humans are opening our emails and answering our phone calls.
Thoughts on Eggs
Another time I sat alone at the bar at Frenchette, my first real meal without my children, and cried softly into a plate of brouillade with caviar. I don't know why.
Quality at East Fork
In the early days, there were no set standards for quality, no SOP’s, and no QC position. The quality and price of a pot was based solely on the maker's own intuitive judgment.
Night Swim & Friends...
Night Swim is an unexpected JOY to behold alongside so many past East Fork seasonals.
Colorful Pages Coalition
Kids are able to imagine a future rife with possibilities when their images are reflected on the pages of their books.
A (Heartfelt) Financial Report from CFO John Vigeland
"We’re a pretty good microcosm of the middle of the US Economy more broadly (no flashy silicon valley salaries, a $15 minimum wage company-wide)."
Alone, Not Lonely
A cupcake in the bathtub. Delivery pizza on the couch. A warm meal at the bar of a neighborhood standby with a crossword for company. A Sunday spent alone at the grocery store, taking your time in every aisle, with a whole afternoon to prepare and enjoy—with no pressure to please anyone but yourself—a three-course meal inspired by a childhood vacation.
