Scenic Route No. 2

Some weeks, walking around town and just watching the world turn feels like worshipping. Some weeks, it all collapses and it's truly a wonder we manage to keep going.

Some weeks, walking around town and just watching the world turn feels like worshipping. Some weeks, it all collapses and it's truly a wonder we manage to keep going. Lately my weeks have felt like both. A few things for comforting, for learning, for considering over the next short stretch of endless time:

Watch:

Last week, East Fork's graphic designer Esteban shared with me Cloud of Petals, a large-scale work by French-American artist Sarah Meyohas, and it's extremely up our alley. Multimedia work considering beauty, labor, gender, technology and so much more. And flowers! So complex, so breathtaking.

Listen:

After more than a few rave reviews about Moses Sumney's set at The Mothlight in Asheville last weekend, I'm super bummed to have missed it. For consolation, I have this song of his on repeat.

Read:

There is so much to feel angry about in the wake of the reveal of Harvey Weinstein's extensive sexual harassment and assault history. Mostly I am tired, but clinging to threads of hope that this event - this reveal of one individual's violent abuse of power - will help people understand that this link of violence and power are systemic issues. And systemic issues cause very real, very personal trauma for very many people. This Elle piece shines a light.

Dance it Out:

HEX is an inclusive, safe, freaky and all-around BUMPING bi-monthly dance party that benefits organizations around Asheville, and it is happening this Friday, October 27th at The Mothlight. Equal parts spooky and joyful vibes are expected. This month's party will benefit Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción (CIMA), who connects, strengthens and organizes communities to take action for immigrants’ rights in Western North Carolina.
