The Coupe is the union of a single plate and a bowl. It’s higher, rounded sides make it the perfect vessel for plating saucier meals. Plates have a flatter, more open surface, making them our preference for meals that may require using a knife. You can use both interchangeably, but a good rule of thumb is to think: coupes for pasta, plates for steak.

The right Coupe depends on what you’re putting in it and how big your appetite is. The Coupe is the one to reach for when you need room for a full meal, and it can double as a serving dish. The Side Coupe is a handy in-between for smaller meals, perhaps a side salad. The Little Coupe is great for small snacks or holding accoutrement like slices of lime wedges. Together, they make a wonderful table setting.

Yes. East Fork pottery is dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe. Our pottery is designed to fit in most standard home dishwashers and is durable enough for commercial dishwashers, too. The only exception is pottery that is made with decaled patterns, like the pots in the The Matisse Collection, which we recommend washing by hand. You can read more about how to care for our pottery here.

All East Fork pottery is made at our factory in Asheville, North Carolina, using a blend of stoneware clays and minerals sourced from the American Southeast. Our team combines skilled handwork with specialized pottery equipment to shape, finish, and glaze each piece. We then fire our pottery in gas kilns using a reduction process that brings out signature iron speckles and natural glaze variations.

We make our pottery with a blend of stoneware clays and minerals that we develop in-house and iterate on nonstop. We source our materials from the American Southeast which helps minimize our carbon footprint and keeps our products rooted in the land we call our home.

East Fork’s clay is rich in iron, as it has been since the beginning, and through a process of limiting the oxygen in the kiln during part of the firing, iron molecules are drawn to the surface of the clay, resulting in our signature iron spots, also lovingly referred to as speckling.

Yes, East Fork dinnerware is oven-safe up to 350°F when heated gradually. Start with room-temperature pottery in a cool oven and let them warm up together. Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as moving pottery directly from the refrigerator into the oven or placing a hot piece in cold water. Let pottery cool before washing or refrigerating, never use it under the broiler, and check for chips or cracks before putting it in the oven.
